The star of Legend of Harri Kala is the endangered European grayling. One of the work’s central aims is to draw attention to the state of the Baltic Sea and to encourage audiences to reflect on their own relationship with the sea and take action to protect it.

We will donate 50% of the proceeds from our premiere ticket sales to the John Nurminen Foundation, and we challenge our audience to join us in supporting this cause.

The John Nurminen Foundation is a Finnish foundation dedicated to the protection of the Baltic Sea and the preservation of maritime culture. Its mission is to save the Baltic Sea and its heritage for future generations by addressing environmental challenges and strengthening people’s connection to the sea. The Foundation carries out concrete conservation projects throughout the Baltic Sea region. These projects reduce nutrient runoff from agriculture and forests, as well as emissions from maritime transport. Restoration work is also carried out below the surface by rehabilitating marine habitats and ecosystems. The Foundation's activities are funded primarily through donations and grants.

We hope that this glimpse beneath the surface, into Harri’s world, will inspire something in us that grows into action for the benefit of the sea and the creatures that live there," says Maija Soljanlahti, Project Manager for Environmental Education at the John Nurminen Foundation.

Ahead of the premiere, audiences are warmly welcome to join us at Ahjo, the exhibition space of the Espoo Cultural Centre, for a pre-show discussion.

Together with Maija Soljanlahti, &, curator Julia Pajunen and dramaturge Pauli Patinen will explore the intersections of game performances, Harri Kala, and environmental awareness.
