Naapurusto: Neither Here Nor There

Artist and director Homa Shokri (& Espoo Theatre) invites participants especially with immigrant background to take part in a workshop series exploring how our bodies experience belonging, movement, and transformation in the city of Espoo.

How can the experience of becoming border and becoming collective be understood through our bodies?

How does the city become a co-character that reflects our gestures, memories, and presence?

The workshops are reflective and sensory, exploring how space and the city are used differently by different bodies — and how imagination and reality blend through memory, perception, and movement. Together, we will explore how the city can be remade through our bodies: how the everyday act of moving, walking, or simply being present can open new forms of visibility and connection.

No background in art or theatre is needed. The atmosphere is relaxed and inclusive, combining conversation, writing, and simple body awareness or somatic practices.

Participation is free of charge. Coffee/tea provided.
Some sessions may be lightly documented (video/sound) only with consent, contributing to a future installation at &Espoo Theatre in 2026.

There are three different workshop groups, each with a specific focus and schedule between January–March.

Group 1:

For: Women
Location: Tapiola / Espoo Theatre & HYTE
Schedule (5 sessions):

Wed 4 February, 12:00–16:00

Group 2:

For: Adults — especially those in phases of recovery, rebuilding stability, major life change or shifts in mental wellbeing.
Location: Tapiola
Schedule (4 sessions):

Tue 3 February, 15:00–18:00
Tue 10 February, 15:00–19:00
Tue 17 February, 15:00–19:00

Group 3:

For: Bus, taxi, Bolt, and delivery drivers.
Format: Short, flexible encounters adapted to drivers’ schedules (March workshops)
Location: Various sites in Espoo such as terminals, waiting areas, and shift-break zones
