A three-picture-collage with a woman by a spinning wheel, hands that sew, a woman holding a roll of yarn.

Arakhne, directed by Sinna Virtanen features the Main Programme at the Tampere Theatre festival in August.

A second chance to see our beloved Arakhne, which was performed at Revontuli last autumn. The performances at the Tampere Theatre Festival are on Wednesday 5 August and Thursday 6 August.

Arachne brings together weaving, pro wrestling and spiders.

The play presents a unique take on the ancient myth of the birth of the spider. The mortal Arachne bests the goddess Athena at weaving, and losing her human form, she is transformed into history’s first spider and continues weaving for all eternity.

On stage the virtuosic trio of Leena Uotila, Seidi Haarla and Karim Rapatti set up the looms, turn into wrestling archetypes – and an epic showdown ensues.

Everything’s at stake: victory, defeat, the audience’s hearts, the biggest tragedy. Who’s got the deepest anecdotes, the realest emotions, the baddest scars, and the cutest looks?

Arachne is a heartstopping combination of Sinna Virtanen’s poetic, playful and darkly comical writing, textile artist Johanna Ulfsak’s labyrinthian designs, Erno Aaltonen’s intense scenography, and Tatu Nenonen’s majestic and intimate sound design.

”Arachne is literally brilliant.”
