Value Added Tax (ALV) increase in January

ALV tax increase on event tickets

The government of Finland has proposed an ALV tax increase on event tickets. Should the proposed change come into effect, the ALV tax will go up from 10 per cent to 14 per cent on all tickets to cultural, entertainment, and sports events.

“Our aim is to maintain reasonable ticket prices at all times and to be in a position to offer, for example, youth and pensioner discounts, in addition to attractive last-minute deals to our regular customers. The ALV tax increase proposed by the government, alas, leaves no room for flexibility, and unfortunately tickets will be a little bit more expensive from next year. We only hope it will not stop anyone from coming to theatre!” says the theatre’s managing director Matilda von Weissenberg.

Our ticket prices will go up on 1.1.2025, should the law be enforced in its proposed form. In effect, the increase will be 0,50 - 2 euros / ticket, depending on the original price. The increase will also apply to reserved tickets; in other words, the final cost of a ticket depends on the time it is purchased.

The increase will not apply to tickets purchased prior to 31.12.2024, including for performances in the spring.

Tickets can be purchased at the theatre until December 20. The Box Office is open on Tue – Fri between 11 - 5pm. On Tuesday Dec 17 and Wednesday Dec 18, the Box Office is open until 6pm. The Box Office is closed for business on Dec 6, and between Dec 21 – Jan 6, 2025 (inclusive).

Lippu.fi sales points are open during their normal opening hours and tickets can be purchased at their current prices until 31.12.2024.
