Dr. Nest, the latest production from the German mask theatre company Familie Flöz, is set in a remote sanatorium, Villa Blanca. Seasoned Dr Nest is piecing together fragments of his memory and reflecting on his life and his long career. Doubt and uncertainty flood his mind; the frail boundaries separating normal from abnormal, determined from obsessional, and healthy from ill, collapse and disappear.
Familie Flöz peeks into the deepest depths of human soul. The production is inspired by real-life neurological case studies. The fragility of human existence is revealed in all its tragedy and comedy.
Expressive, fine masks and virtuoso physical theatre create an enchanted performance telling us a story that touches beyond most words’ reach.
A genuine trailblazer in its field, Berlin-based Familie Flöz is perhaps the most well-known theatre company working with masks. The company has performed in 34 countries and its productions have featured at all major performing arts festivals, Edinburgh Fringe and the Avignon Festival among them. For the past year, the company has been touring in Europe as well as in China, Hong Kong, and Chile.
Espoo City Theatre has previously presented Familie Flöz’s productions Ristorante Immortale, Teatro Delusio, Hotel Paradiso, Infinita and Garage d´Or. These hugely popular performances have made the company a perennial audience favourite whose visits to Espoo are keenly anticipated.
