World premiere in Germany
The performance will premiere in Stuttgart on 7.2.2020 as part of the ECLAT new music festival. The piece will continue in Stuttgart for two weeks at Theater Rampe, after which it will be shown at ARGEkultur in Salzburg, Espoo City Theatre and Tampereen Työväen Teatteri. Verdrängen Verdrängen Verdrängen is the first part of Oblivia’s trilogy dealing with emotions and politics.
Experimental music theatre production
In their very own minimalistic and humorous way, Oblivia explores the collective European subconscious and the human mind, and delves into shared memories and experiences. The performance revolves around different meanings and interpretations of the German word “verdrängen”. The word can mean rejection, abandonment or displacement.
The performance takes place in a world where the familiar becomes unfamiliar, where the uncanny is the new norm, and where ghosts and aliens move freely. From schlagers to contemporary music, the work has been created in collaboration with the young, talented composer, Yiran Zhao.
