Open call for performers for the stage work Ejaculation Falls

How would you describe your sexuality? How does desire live and change? Where all can pleasure be found? Whose ejaculation is still a taboo?

The word ejaculation means both sexual climax and a sudden, emotional burst of words, a desire to be heard. Ejaculation Falls is a performance where a group of people gather together to celebrate sexual diversity. It is an opportunity to share things regarding sex and sexuality that are often hidden or silenced in public discourse.

A dialogue comprised of different experiences, the performance leads its viewers to the other side of norms and collective notions. It invites us to examine sexuality’s power and various dimensions, to give new words to the ways in which sexuality is spoken of. Ejaculation Falls is a place for questions, change, and the realisation of a more sex-positive world.

We seek experts of their own experiences or inexperiences to join the Ejaculation Falls working group

The work process takes place during the autumn together with the director and the rest of the working group. The process follows safer space guidelines, which the group will create together during the beginning of the process. The work consists of interviews with the performers, mutual discussions, and stage work, all of which will take into account the performers’ histories and starting points. The working languages are Finnish and English. We especially encourage cis women, trans, non-binary and gender-diverse people of all ages to apply. Performances and rehearsals are held in accessible locations. Applicants do not need to have previous experience with performing.

Ejaculation Falls is a joint production between the Baltic Circle theatre festival, Sick Festival and Espoo City Theatre, and it will premiere in Louhi Hall of Espoo Cultural Centre as part of the Baltic Circle festival in November 2021.

The piece was convened by Essi Rossi, a Helsinki-based director and dramaturge who works diversely in the fields of theatre and performance art. Rossi has worked with gender, sexuality, and their potential for years with works such as Ejaculation – Discussions About Female Sexuality, which premiered at the Finnish National Theatre in 2018 and toured both in Austria and at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in Scotland.
