We have been invited to join the Prospero New European Wave network, which brings together leading theaters and theater festivals from across Europe.

Prospero New European Wave, or Prospero NEW, promotes international collaboration, co-productions, and artist mobility in the field of new performing arts. It is one of the largest and most prestigious performing arts networks funded by Creative EU. The network’s purpose is to identify promising European theater makers and support the elevation of their work to an international scale.

The membership opens up new opportunities for us in international co-productions and touring, and strengthens our position in the European field. At the same time, it supports the export of Finnish performing arts to Europe.

This is a great honor for us: the network’s founding members include 19 leading European theater institutions, such as the Festival d’Avignon, Wiener Festwochen, and Onassis Stegi. The network has supported, for example, Mario Banushi, who visited & last fall, and his production MAMI, in which we are one of the co-producers. Banushi was awarded the Silver Lion at this year’s Venice Biennale as the youngest artist ever.

– We didn’t see this coming at all; the invitation to join the network came out of the blue! says our CEO, Matilda von Weissenberg.

– For us, the invitation is a sign that we’ve done something right and that we’re seen as a serious player on the European theatre scene. Prospero NEW features some truly talented creators who support one another and drive the entire network forward. The network is still relatively small at this stage, so everyone knows each other. If we succeed in leveraging Prospero effectively now, it will have a very positive impact on the internationalization of Finnish works in the future.
