Kysy siskoilta – Ask The Sisters
The history of hysteria, the demonized PMS, endless pressure over appearance, motherhood, and ageing. Kysy siskoilta (Ask the sisters) brings all the phenomena of womanhood to the table in a raw way — through music, laughter, and incredible acting work. The play investigates the experience of being a woman through everyday life as well as historical and scientific analysis. The most important role in the performance is the presence of the different-aged women on stage, with the sharing of wisdom and empowering, empathetic music. You are not alone.
“The stories of women have never been heard in this way before” —Satu Rasila

All conceptions about menopause got thrown in the bin during this project. Everything about women’s life, hormonal changes from adolescence to childbirth, PMS agony to pressure about our looks, these are things that are shared by all women. When we choose to share our experiences instead of keeping silent, the end result is joyful and touching to hear. Satu Rasila, Director & Scriptwriter
We live in the age of information overload; information comes from every direction. But one could argue that there is information and there’s information. There is men’s knowledge, which has been the established knowledge, and then there is women’s knowledge, which is different. The kind that has remained in the shadows, for which there hasn’t traditionally been room on the sunny side. It’s the quieter kind, the kind a sister knows best. We now want to give it a voice. We are happy to bring Kysy siskoilta – Ask The Sisters, which has gained a cult reputation in Turku, to the stage of the Espoo City Theatre.”Erik Söderblom, Artistic Director
