Waiting for Godot – Huomenna hän tulee
Espoo City Theatre cancels all performances until the end of January. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Tickets may be returned for a refund.
Two friends, Vladimir (Martti Suosalo) and Estragon (Mika Nuojua), stand by the side of a road, awaiting. They are waiting for Godot, whom it is vital they see, yet it is not clear why this is, or what the meeting is for.
To pass the time, the pair converse, trading non sequiturs and inanities. When Mr Pozzo (Ville Majamaa) and his slave Lucky (Tomi Alatalo) pass the two friends on the road, the extraordinary twosome provides much needed distraction but very few answers.
Show moreNobel laureate Samuel Beckett’s (1906-1989) classic playtext is one of the very finest of Western literature. Beckett revered music hall and the early screen comedies of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. These influences are evident in this devastating play. Beckett masterfully straddles comedy and tragedy as events veer from slapstick to profound examination of the human condition and back again, without ever pausing for breath.
In this Espoo City Theatre, The Tampere Theatre, and Turku City Theatre’s joint production, Beckett’s classic work is brought into the 2020’s. Set in the very moment of apocalypse, or perhaps genesis, the production is as timely and shocking as it is funny. Pentti Kotkaniemi directs Reita Lounatvuori’s new translation.
As low hanging grey clouds hurtle by, tiny human creatures strive to find a smidgeon of happiness and meaning in their life. There is always something to wait for, after all.
