Eräteatteri

Juha Hurme brings his unique Eräteatteri to Nuuksio National Park! Dress for the outdoors, grab a map and a compass, and embark on an adventure. Attending this performance requires both comfortable footwear and solid map-reading skills.

Hurme and actor Roosa Söderholm’s production is a package deal containing two miniature plays – Franz Kafka’s Pesä (The Burrow) and Rosa Liksom’s Reitari – and a surprise.

Performances take place in Nuuksio’s Ruuhijärvi and Orajärvi area, some two kilometres (as the crow flies) from the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia. In this section of the National Park, no marked paths exist. The exact location is revealed to ticket holders on the performance day. The performance site switches from one day to the next, and without a map and a compass, it will be troublesome to locate. Exact coordinates will not be provided: smartphone navigation is for wussies. Allow at least an hour for the journey.

Franz Kafka created a verbal universe unlike any other at the beginning of the 20th century. Kafka’s work is at once frightening, oppressive, and hilarious. In the short story ‘The Burrow’, a badger-like creature builds itself a burrow against all threats. The task is doomed; all methods fail eventually. Every passing second takes each living creature closer to death – nothing else is certain.

Roosa Söderholm plays Reitari, based on Rosa Liksom’s eponymous work. Liksom’s superlative and fun portrayal of Reidar Särestöniemi’s art and life presents an individual who, with great and conscious effort, successfully remains a part of nature. Thence emerges his idiosyncratic work.
