&Fest – Focus Gent: Funeral

It shall start, in the dark. We will greet each other, and we will say goodbye. There will be singing and pretending. There will be light and room for darkness. We’ll light candles, we will eat and drink and celebrate our lives. And all of that will end. Welcome.

Funeral is an immersive ceremony where artists join forces with the audience to create a collective ritual in a theatre space wrapped in drapes and curtains. A ritual for life, farewells, and the inevitability of finiteness. The performance evolves from a question: how would a funeral, and all other life's rituals, look like if we could reimagine them, without religion, tradition, or convention? Here, beliefs, religion, or background are immaterial - come as you are, and create your own ritual.
