What others are saying

"The most empathetic play I have worked on."Antti Mikkola
"Leea Klemola is Finnish theatre's forever young, old enfant terrible, in whose writing copious amounts of swearing, excess, and sexual lexicon work as a corrective, pointing out to the audience the mess we presently are in." Aamulehti, Nina Lehtinen
"Vaimoni, Casanova is a hilarious tragicomedy that makes you want to laugh and cry, mostly at the same time."

Leea Klemola

Leea Klemola (b. 1965) is among the most idiosyncratic and startling theatre practitioners in Finland. & last presented Klemola's work in season 2019-20, when Arktiset leikit visited in &Revontuli.

Klemola began her career as an actor. In her work, she dismantles theatre's conventions by creating fresh, unashamed, and authentic ways of communication. Her works address shame, embodied experience, and sexuality, but equally they reflect on love, communality, and humanity. In her writing, profane and profound are one, and whatever separates man from beasts becomes hazy.
Klemola is a founding member of Aurinkoteatteri in Helsinki. She has directed several operas and acted in many films and tv series. She won the Jussi award for best female actor in 1997 and in 2013. Klemola was awarded the Olavi Veistäjä prize in 2005 and decorated with the Pro Finland medal in 2009. Minä, askartelija was awarded the Lea prize for the best Finnish play in 2021.
